Canterbury

I'm off to Canterbury today, with the hope of finding a cheap-but-sturdy tripod. I love Canterbury, it's very pretty and so quaint.

I don't like to use this journal to rant these days but some things just have to be said.

I like unicorns and mermaids but I have little interest in dragons.

So effin' what, I hear you say?

So if I come across a DA account with lots of fantasy art I will naturally go to what I DO like and avoid the art that doesn't interest me, no matter how well done it is. Sounds reasonable, right?

Well, the same applies with orcas. I wish people who post orca photos wouldn't get so damn pissy about people liking their work. If you're sick of only the cetacean photos getting attention, there's an easy way to stop that happening.

Stop posting them.

I hear ya.
People shouldn't be whining about how their orca shots get all the attention and their non-orca shots get very few of it. Ever thought of the fact that it's maybe just the orca shots people are watching you for, which make up 90% of your gallery? Appearently, no.

You cannot force others to comment on everything you post, especially when the subject/concept is none of their interest.

Why can't certain people just... STOP complaining? :disbelief:

Good luck in your quest for the holy tripod!

Amen. I get more attention with my cetacean shots, but that's what most of my watchers like. I don't care. I just appreciate any and all activity with my photos, cetacean related or not.

Because they're insecure.

Because they feel that they need recognition beyond pointing a camera at a whale and pressing the shutter. Because they feel they actually aren't all that good at what they do outside that realm and want to be told otherwise to make themselves feel better, instead of simply enjoying a wonderful hobby.

I'm not even poking fun here. It really is quite sad.

Good luck finding a cheap & sturdy tripod! I hear those are the best kind :)

Rest in peace, Athena

Would a monopod do the trick? They are smaller and more mobile.

I have always enjoyed the hobby and am glad to know others can enjoy what I share. When you make anything in life a competion it can rob the joy of doing it!

Some will like some will not. That will not alter what I do.

I'd only really use one for long exposures, so cheap is good! :D

I managed to find a nice tripod for £34, so that'll do for now. I really don't have use for one except when I'm doing long exposures. :) Perhaps over time I'll find myself using it more.

Well said.

Exactly, and if the cetacean mania gets too much, I just don't post a whale photo for a while and let my other shots take centre stage.
